Phil's Local Insight

Bakewell will always feel like home to me. I grew up here, went to school here and many of my happiest memories were made in and around the town. I attended All Saints Junior School before moving on to Lady Manners School, and like so many local children, much of my spare time was spent enjoying everything Bakewell had to offer. Sport played a huge part in my life growing up. I learned to play golf at Bakewell Golf Club, represented Bakewell Mannerians Rugby Club on the old showground and spent many years playing cricket across the local area.

My first job was at Aitch's Wine Bar in the centre of town, before later working in the kitchen at the Lathkill Hotel. Those experiences gave me a real appreciation for the people, businesses and community that make Bakewell such a special place. Even today, with my mum still living in Bakewell, I return regularly and know the town as well as anywhere in the Peak District.
